How do you beat Lord Zir in Diablo 4? Whether you’re farming for strong items for the base classes or Vessel of Hatred’s new Spiritborn class, taking on Lord Zir is a good plan. However, beating him is easier said than done.
The Diablo 4 Lord Zir boss was introduced back in Season 2, though he’s still available as an endgame encounter, rewarding high-tier gear in the RPG game. Given how challenging Lord Zir can be, though, it’s wise to enter as one of the best Diablo 4 classes in the meta right now, or even bring in one of the new Diablo 4 mercenaries to lend a hand.
How to beat Lord Zir in Diablo 4
To beat Lord Zir, you should:
- Bait Lord Zir towards the edge of the arena to keep the blood pools in one area
- Flank Lord Zir to avoid his telegraphed frontal attack
- Avoid the damaging blood pools and blood orbs
- Kill the Blood Seekers as and when they spawn
- Use shadow resistance potions to increase your defenses
If you’re finding yourself thinking to yourself, “Lord Zir just does too much damage,” then it’s likely because you lack shadow resistance. If you don’t have this stat on your armor, then you can bolster your defenses temporarily with an Elixir of Shadow Resistance. Just remember to reapply it when it runs out if you’re farming Lord Zir back-to-back. Nevertheless, this will simply reduce the damage you take from his shadow-based attacks.
As with most bosses in Diablo 4, Lord Zir’s moveset progresses as the fight does, giving you more to look out for. With that said, keeping the boss against the outside edge of the arena is your best option for the entire fight. By keeping Lord Zir on the outskirts, you can ensure the blood pools he spawns will remain on one side of the arena. This gives you a relatively safe zone to retreat to when you need to avoid attacks or other enemies.
Nevertheless, once Lord Zir reaches around 70% HP, he will spawn an Elite Bloodseeker, which you’ll need to deal with right away. Shortly after, Zir will begin to spawn additional traps that you will need to avoid, especially when you’re moving to flank him.
Finally, at around 30% HP, Lord Zir will flap his wings to create a linear zone that you will have to avoid. Since you’ll want to be flanking him anyway, it’s generally a matter of rotating around the arena just before the attack is launched. Dodging at the last second is crucial to avoid this attack, especially if there are other mobs in the small arena.
