Neon-soaked roguelike BlazBlue Entropy Effect explodes with DLC and free update

BlazBlue Entropy Effect is soaring over on Steam as the roguelike game gets a new DLC and free update that you can try out right now.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect Steam DLC

For me, nothing quite beats the thrill of an action roguelike. The constant build variety. The quick combat. The flashy visuals. It all comes together in a way few other genres do. That’s why I’m always raving about Dead Cells, Enter the Gungeon, and Hades. Well, another entry in the genre has appeared on my radar, and it’s just got some free DLC to bring players back. This is BlazBlue Entropy Effect, and it oozes cool.

If you recognize the name BlazBlue, that’s because this roguelike is a spinoff of the beloved fighting game series. Instead of brawling with other players, though, you’ve been transported to a neon-soaked cyberspace called ACE. Here’s where you choose your character, then blast your way through various levels and fight bosses.

Combat in BlazBlue Entropy Effect is fast, frenetic, and absolutely gorgeous to look at. If you’ve raced through the 2D levels of Dead Cells, blitzing enemies to get as far as possible, Entropy Effect will feel like a second home. I love a good cyberpunk aesthetic, and Entropy Effect is full of the futuristic cityscapes and bright lights I’ve come to expect.

The game is leveling up, however, with various new DLC features dropping all at once.  First up is the new Hazama Character pack, a premium addon that features the titular Hazama as a playable character. Accompanied by a slate of new abilities, he can use his knife for close combat and bright green chains to close the distance, then finish foes off by unleashing his obtained Potential.

It’s not just DLC though, as developer 91Act has also released some free updates for BlazBlue Entropy Effect. There’s the new free character ICEY, from the Steam game of the same name, who you can unlock after playing some new levels. The update also includes Reki, an original boss you can challenge for yourself. Reki’s Red Thunder skill makes her quite the opponent, but it also helps create one of the slickest-looking 2D boss fights I’ve ever seen.

All of this has proven to be hugely successful for BlazBlue Entropy Effect, as it’s reaching new heights on Steam. As of writing, the game has shot up to its highest-ever Steam player count of over 11,000 concurrents. It looks like this number will keep climbing too, as the stats are still increasing exponentially.
